This survey exhibition brings together key works from the past decade of Michael Muir's practice, tracing the development of his distinctive visual language through his use of colour, form and composition. Acclaimed for his vibrant, contemplative landscapes that dissolve the line between memory and reality, Muir creates paintings that are felt as much as they are seen. His bold, intuitive use of colour invites viewers into expressive and deeply sensory landscapes that play with memory and reality, transforming the familiar into immersive and dream-like states.
Living on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Muir draws on the coastal environment that shapes him, infusing his work with a sense of place, belonging, and intimacy. His paintings traverse physical and psychological terrains in Australia and beyond, blending abstraction with figuration and geometry with architectural form.
This exhibition celebrates one of the most compelling contemporary artists working in our region. A multiple finalist in the Wynne and Sulman Art Prizes, Muir’s works feature in major public and private collections, including Artbank, Mosman Art Gallery, and the Parliament House Art Collection. He is represented by Arthouse Gallery Sydney, and Jan Murphy Gallery Brisbane.
