Celebrating 50 Years of NAIDOC

From 5–12 July 2026, communities across Australia will come together for NAIDOC Week, a time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It’s an opportunity to learn from the world’s oldest continuing cultures, connect with community and recognise the stories, traditions and contributions that continue to shape our nation.

This year marks a major milestone, 50 years of NAIDOC. The 2026 theme, “50 Years of Deadly”, honours the people, communities and movements that have shaped NAIDOC into the national celebration it is today.

What began as a movement advocating for recognition and rights has grown into a powerful celebration of culture, resilience and community. The theme reflects on the achievements of the past five decades, acknowledges those who have led the way, and looks ahead to the future with pride, strength and optimism.

Across the Beaches, a range of events and activities will provide opportunities to learn, connect and celebrate alongside local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
