Council Grants Help Protect Local Heritage

From sandstone cottages to character-filled homes, the Northern Beaches’ heritage buildings tell the story of who we are and where we’ve come from. To help keep these stories standing strong, Northern Beaches Council is offering heritage grants of up to $3,000 to support restoration and maintenance works on eligible properties.

The grants are open to owners of heritage-listed buildings or items of environmental heritage significance, including those listed under the Manly, Warringah or Pittwater Local Environmental Plans. Funding can cover up to 50 per cent of approved project costs, once works have been completed.

Mayor Sue Heins says protecting heritage is a shared responsibility and one that helps preserve the unique character of local suburbs.

Preserving local heritage ensures future generations can continue to experience the charm, stories and visual appeal that make the Northern Beaches such a special place to live.

Eligible projects may include repairs to structural elements like walls and brickwork, repainting external walls, restoring windows, verandahs, roofs and decorative features, as well as repairing historic fences, drainage and bridge structures. Past grant recipients have used the funding to reinstate historic mortar, fix leaking roofs and restore verandahs to their former glory.

To apply, property owners must submit a completed application form along with proof of approval for works, invoices or receipts, plans or sketches, and before-and-after photographs.

Applications are now open and close at 5pm on Friday 20 March 2026.

To check eligibility, review the Local Heritage Fund Guidelines or download an application form, visit Council’s website or contact Council’s Heritage Planner on 1300 434 434.
