Now in its sixth year, artists and designers Australia-wide are invited to submit works exploring environmental themes for this year’s Environmental Art & Design Prize (EADP). Works will be accepted from 10am Wednesday 18 March to 5pm Monday 18 May 2026.
Finalists will be announced on Friday 28 May and the winners will be announced on Friday 7 August 2026.
Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said she welcomes participation by our creative art and design community.
“It’s always exciting and illuminating to receive the submissions from such creative minds for the annual Environmental Art & Design Prize.
“Each submission is always considered and thought-provoking, showcasing the incredible talent we have in Australia.
“This prize stands as one of Australia’s leading and unique platforms for combining both art and design with an environmental focus, inspiring real-world change through interdisciplinary creativity.”
Northern Beaches Council is pleased to announce the judges for EADP 2026 will be respected visual artist Laura Jones and designer, educator and cultural leader Nila Rezaei.
When asked: "What excites you most about being involved as a judge for the Environmental Art & Design Prize in 2026?" Laura replied:
“I'm excited to see how artists and designers are responding to the climate crisis: the ideas, materials and reflections emerging from this moment in time. The prize offers a platform for many different voices to be heard and I can't wait to see practices that are dealing with the sense of urgency and hope that define this point in time.”
When asked: "What advice do you have to share with designers wanting to develop their practices and networks?" Nila replied:
“Be curious. Be rigorous. Be courageous. There is nothing more powerful than asking questions, challenging assumptions, and continually upskilling yourself.”
There are four prizes on offer this year with prize money totalling $46,000. A majority of the prize money is being funded by our generous sponsors and application fees. The visual arts and design winners each receive an impressive $20,000. The people’s choice winners and the young artists/designers have a prize pool of $3,000 each.
All finalists will be featured in an exhibition across two venues at Manly Art Gallery & Museum (Art & Design categories), and Curl Curl Creative Space (Young Artists & Designers category), from 7 August to 20 September 2026.
Environmental Art & Design Prize is presented by Northen Beaches Council and foundation sponsor Colormaker Industries along with event sponsor Kimbriki Environmental Enterprises and event supplier Seadrift Distillery.
