Sun Run Smashes Records

Now in its 16th year, Sun Run delivered its biggest turnout yet, with more than 10,000 people running, walking, pushing prams and dancing their way from Dee Why to Manly Beach.

The pace was electric from the start. Winner Leo Peterson crossed the line in a blistering 30:24 to take out the 10km, setting the tone for a morning packed with personal bests and big smiles.

Participants tackled either the 7km or 10km course, soaking up postcard views across Dee Why, Curl Curl, Freshwater, Queenscliff and Manly beaches. It was classic Beaches energy, fresh air, blue water and a community moving together.

Beyond the results, the impact was felt far wider. More than $106,342 has already been raised for charity, surpassing the $100,000 target. Funds will support Melanoma Institute Australia, Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, MS Plus and Olive & Kin.

Mayor Sue Heins, who officially started the race, praised the crowd and competitors alike, saying the atmosphere was inspiring and a true reflection of the community spirit that defines The Beaches.
