We will remember them - Anzac Day services on the Beaches

Council will host Anzac Day commemorations at Manly Warringah War Memorial Park (Manly Dam) and Manly War Memorial (The Corso) in addition to a number of local services run by RSL Branches, retirement villages, schools and clubs across the Northern Beaches.

Anzac Day marks the anniversary of 25 April 1915, when the first major military engagement was undertaken by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) during the First World War.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said Anzac Day is a reminder of the horror of war and the unshakeable bonds of friendship connecting Australia and New Zealand.

“Anzac Day remains one of the most significant days on the national calendar, bringing communities together to reflect on the cost of war and the opportunity to honour the courage, sacrifice and enduring spirit of Australian and New Zealand service personnel.

“We gather not only to honour those who served and those who never returned, but also to acknowledge the ongoing contributions of veterans and their families in our community.”

During the eight-month campaign, 60,000 Australians served at Gallipoli. Of those 8,700 Australians lost their lives and some 18,000 were wounded.

“I invite everyone across the Northern Beaches to attend a service, pause for reflection, and honour all who served in past and present conflicts. Their legacy is one we must continue to preserve.” Mayor Heins said.
