Artists Wanted for Avalon’s New Public Artwork
Salt air, Norfolk pines and a village that still knows your name. Now Avalon wants an artist to set that feeling in stone, timber and paving.
Northern Beaches Council has opened expressions of interest for a new public artwork in Avalon village. Artists of all backgrounds and experience levels are invited to apply, with the finished piece to be woven into the village’s paving, seating and landscaping.
Common Ground
The artwork will explore two themes, living landscape and common ground, both shaped by community feedback gathered earlier this year.
Mayor Sue Heins said the project is a chance for artists to leave their mark on one of the Beaches’ most loved town centres.
“Avalon has a strong sense of place, shaped by its natural beauty, creative community and vibrant village atmosphere,” Mayor Heins said.
“Avalon village is where people come together to connect and share experiences and we’re after a distinctive artwork that reflects the village identity.”
“We’re looking for an artist who can capture what makes Avalon special and create a lasting artwork that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors for many years to come,” she said.
Street Smart
The permanent installation forms part of Avalon’s Streets as Shared Spaces upgrade, which aims to make the village centre a welcoming, safe place to shop, stop and linger. The artwork will be funded by Council, with installation expected in 2027.
